This or That: July 4th Edition - Pool Party or Cook Out

by Mary Larkin |

The Fourth of July is just around the corner and the big question is: Pool party or cookout? As someone who grew up with a friend who threw epic pool parties to kick off the summer, I am a little biased and lean towards the pool parties. Regardless, I am here to lay out some considerations for both options.

The first necessity of having a pool party is that you actually need to have access to a pool. Depending on where you live, a pool may not be open or sitting in your backyard. In the event that there’s not a pool nearby, you can always purchase an inexpensive blow up pool to cool your feet and let the kids splash around in while your barbecue is on the grill. If a pool is within your reach then you have the option of taking a dip in between plates of barbecue and it will keep the kids occupied for hours. Either way, adding water will bring out the summer for adults and children, alike.

If a pool party is not your type of Fourth of July celebration, a cookout is a great option. Firing up the grill and hanging out with a few close friends or the family is a great way to get some sun and enjoy some delicious food and cocktails. To add an extra spark to your holiday try adding this perfect refreshing twist to a cocktail— Rose Fruta Popsicles or you can live out your Pretty Woman fantasies and make your own Strawberry Champagne Popsicles. You won’t have the option of taking a dip in the pool when it starts getting hot outside, so stay hydrated, wear your sunscreen, and find your favorite shady spot to sit and relax in.

Regardless of how you choose to spend your Fourth of July, make sure you take some time to enjoy yourself and spend time with people you love, be it virtually or in person with proper precautions. Have a wonderful Fourth of July—stay comfy and cheers to our beautiful country!
