Stylish clothing is not always designed with comfort in mind. Heels hurt your feet, belts dig into your skin, and uncomfortable fabrics can irritate your skin. Why do we compromise comfort for style? Looking good should also feel good.

Here are a few things to keep in mind so you won’t have to compromise your physical comfort for style:

Pay Attention to Fabrics

Select fabrics that are fitting for the weather and have a good hand. The fabric of a piece of clothing will determine a lot about the look and feel of the piece. This may dictate what types of fabrics are ideal for different situations. At (IN)LARKIN this is a critical part of the design process.

We start with the fabric, the feeling of the fabric, the drape, and then design into that fabrication. Designer Mary Beth Larkin says, “The fabric speaks to me and tells me what it wants to be.” For example, the Winged Tunic is a combination of a 2 fabric contrast; matte versus sheen, with each fabric working together to provide a comfortable but sexy body-conscious fit.

Unique Detailing

Unique detailing brings a subtle and surprising element of delight and style to any piece.

Some examples of unique detailing are found in our Winged Tunic; a one-sided sateen winged sleeve that showcases the shoulder and is reminiscent of butterfly wings to represent the power of transformation, style, and new beginnings.

The back of this silhouette is contrast Sateen that has an angled forward side seam to give a very flattering slender look. This is just one style and these are just a few of the unique details that encompass this new Collection.

Designer Mary Beth Larkin says, “I love designing pieces with unique feminine details that ideally will make a woman feel special. I try to incorporate these details in every design.”

Layering

Layering, when done right, allows you to be cozy with an added element of luxury. Layering also gives you the flexibility to adjust to the temperature regardless of the season.

Playing with different proportions can also make you look longer and leaner while still giving off an effortlessly chic vibe. For example, start with the Winged Tunic as your baseline piece and add the Aliferous Shirt Dress in a contrast color with a nude belt and some flats for a classic look or layer the Winged Tunic with the MOBO Beauty Bomber with some slides for an effortlessly chic look.

Comfort and style do not have to be mutually exclusive. Though this is not a comprehensive list, there are plenty of fun ways to explore your own personal style while staying comfy.
